January 24

Reading Room

Photobucket

The National Library in Melbourne, which is gorgeous, happens to house this particular item:

Armor

Photobucket

Ned Kelly, the Australian version of Robin Hood, wore this hand-made armor at his last stand. They shot his legs out and then hung him. His last words were, "Such is life."

January 25

Teapot

Photobucket

I am a little teapot, short and stout.
Here is my handle, here is my spout.

January 26

Australia Day

Photobucket

People here play cricket. It makes little to no sense.

January 27

Time stops

Photobucket

My mom's watch broke, so I stitched it back up.

January 28

Buffalo Nickel

Photobucket

We get Jefferson, they get an echidna.

January 29

Southern Hemisphere

Photobucket

It's summer here.

January 30

Teacher

Photobucket

Yeah, scary, isn't it?

That's all folks, probably for a little while at least.

January 17 - 23

January 17

New Lisbon

Photobucket

In 1755 there was an earthquake in Lisbon, the capitol of Portugal, and many thought it was punishment from God. It killed thousands but inspired new philosophies among such hoity-toity men as Voltaire, Rousseau, and Kant, if we want to be pretentious about it.

Eventually some graffiti appeared that said "Lisbon is a weight on the mind" and this has stuck with me not only as a beautiful sentence, but as a reminder that I really want to go to Lisbon. This is a bridge in New Lisbon, WI, which I saw because the Greyhound had to get off the expressway and travel a back highway because of the atrocious snowstorm.

January 18

Above the Clouds
Photobucket

Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, which is, by the way, gorgeous.

Easy Waikiki

Photobucket

Sometimes, when you're in a cheap and crappy hotel in Honolulu, sitting on a hard mattress with a good friend after a long day of travelling, all you really want is some mac and cheese.

January 19

Hawaii

Photobucket

This is the best thing I saw in Hawaii...sunrise over the tarmac.

January 20

Wantirna

Photobucket

This is the view from my new back porch.
Unfortunately my new photo-editing program is Windows Paint. This is very sad for me. Also sad for this website and not sad for me is the fact that this summer I will be in Yellowstone with no access to the internet. This means great pictures, but no updates in June and July.

January 21

Kookaburra

Photobucket

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
merry merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, kookaburra laugh, kookaburra
Gay your life must be!

January 22

Greedy Bugger

Photobucket

That is my hand, and that is a kangaroo. Enough said.

January 23

Jimmy

Photobucket

This is the new guy I'm sleeping with. He's not the most attactive, and his tongue is too small for his mouth, and he's a bit needy, but otherwise he has a great personality and he is keeping my bed warm.

January 11 - 16

January 11

Night Snow

Photobucket

Day Snow

Photobucket

January 12

Scarf

Photobucket

This scarf was made by my most excellent friend Jared, who is awesome and keeps me about as warm emotionally as the scarf keeps me physically. Which is pretty warm.

January 13

Ceaderburg

Photobucket

The town of Ceaderburg exists because of this river, which enabled the settlers to mill cloth and other goods, and sell the Cream City Brick that the old mill show here is made of. It has been refurbished into tourist shops, which is what the town does now.

January 14

Chai

Photobucket

Simmer chai tea with milk, water, and honey.
Result: bliss.

January 15

Dominican

Photobucket

This really crappy picture is of Dominican High School, which I attended way back when. A lot of people hated high school, but I loved it. It's where I made friends and learned not just how to write really good papers and build sets for plays, but also how to be funny.

January 16

Gus

Photobucket

This is the guy I'm sleeping with now.

Funny story about that, he went the doctor and was getting all prepped for his neutering surgery, and then they realized they had to do a spaying surgery instead.

Next entry will be from warmer climes. Bon Voyage!

January 6 - 10

January 6

Farm Machinery in the Fog

Photobucket

Pine Needles

Photobucket

When it's fifty-some degrees in January you know you're in for something. In this case it was fog, in other areas of the state it was tornadoes. I'll take the fog.

January 7

Consumerism

Photobucket

Here, minus a ticket for "I am Legend" and some pizza, is everything that I bought or was bought for me today.

January 8

Gutter Punk

Photobucket

Just because it's warm out doesn't mean the water in the drainpipes you're cleaning out won't be freezing cold.

January 9

Buttons

Photobucket

Someday I hope to have a button tin of my very own, not just because they're aesthetically pleasing, but because they show you care enough to repair rather than replace. Not everything is so disposable.

January 10

In Which I am Extremely British

Photobucket

Wellies, Wool, Tea and Corduroy.
"Pip-Pips" proved unnecessary.

January 5th

North

Photobucket

I love that this should be a monochrome, but it's not. Anyway, its the view from my road of the neighbor's house and the north.

January 4th

Cold Picnic

Photobucket

Fancy a sit?

January 3rd

Long Day

Photobucket

Things that this picture would have been of had I had my camera on hand:

Blood-pink sunrise over Minneapolis
The pancake given to me on the bus by my seatmate
Comedy Sportz in Milwaukee

Instead I was really tired.

January 2nd, 2008

Underwater

Photobucket

Did anyone ever read the book "Firebrat"? Maybe you should.

Also, I'm using Photoshop to crop/resize photos, but none of that crazy editing. I'm old-school.

January 1st, 2008

Cat and Clementines

Photobucket

I think technically that this picture was taken on January 2nd, but technically you can suck it.

This Journal

Apparently it would be a good idea to take a picture every day for a year. I blatantly stole this idea from my dear friend Limey and transformed into this website. Each week I shall endeavor to upload pictures: one or two representing the events of each day. It will be like a time capsule that is constantly being added to but without all the unpleasant digging. Please excuse erratic posting, mangled explanations, boring subject matter, and stampeding elephants. These are the trials we face in this vast and Pluto-less future: 2008.

p.s. I was promised a flying car.
All work copyright the author. Please do not use without permission. If you really need the money I'll buy you a sandwich.
